I am doing a joint science-business PhD to look at the complete life cycle of a molecule from its discovery in the lab to availability in the market. In the business component of my thesis, I am studying the evolution of business models in the U.S. biotechnology industry contributes to the success and failure of a firm, consequently its potential therapeutics. Simultaneously, in the science, component of my thesis I am working towards the development of anti cancer and anti-bacterial peptides, incorporating the concept of cyclized backbone to improve their pharmaceutically important characteristics, while exploring the mechanism of biosynthesis of cyclic peptide in plants that could assist in the expression of peptide-based therapeutics in plants.
