Despite many years of research, advanced MRI biomarkers such as Diffusion Tractogrphy, Perfusion and Functional MRI, are still not trivial to implement in clinical practice. This presentation will discuss our experiences at Royal Melbourne Hospital in clinically translating quantitative MRI biomarkers for improved diagnosis, treatment planning and monitoring, and clinical research of neurological diseases. This includes the use Diffusion Tractography and fMRI for neurosurgical guidance and planning; Perfusion/Diffusion mismatch for management of Stroke patients; Perfusion and Diffusion MRI for monitoring brain tumour therapeutic efficacy; and Perfusion imaging of hemodynamic reserve using Arterial Spin Labelling. It will be shown that these biomarkers can be readily and safely utilised to improve clinical practice when experienced imaging scientists are embedded into clinical departments such as Radiology or Neurology.
